Collaborating to Prevent Substance Misuse

WE CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PREVENT SUBSTANCE MISUSE & PROMOTE HEALTHY FAMILIES.

Our strategies are to increase awareness and engage the community in managing medications for themselves and their families; provide education regarding the negative impact and influence of substance misuse; enhancing’s skills of community leaders, parents, educators, and our youth through training in evidence-based practices and programs that are proven to be effective in reducing the early onset of substance use.

Prevent Substance Misuse

Drug Take Back Events are scheduled throughout the year with Nassau County Police’s 8th Precinct to provide a safe and supervised central location for community members to dispose of unused or expired medication. 

Impacting Policy Changes: Levittown Community Action Coalition works with the Town of Hempstead to introduce and change policies related to underage access to substances.

Prevent Substance Misuse

Overdose Prevention Education and Naloxone Training: Parents and residetns learn to administer Naloxone as a lifesaving tool when faced with an opiate/heroin overdose.

Community Forums are provided for parents and residents with valuable and up-to-date information on critical topics including communication, early intervention and the warning signs of substance misuse and how to get help.
