On October 29th, Levittown Community Action Coalition hosted a Drug Take Back Event at Wisdom Lane Middle School. The Take Back Event was held in observance of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day meant to address the crucial public safety and public health issue prescription drugs pose. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs and a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.1 The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths by disposing of their unneeded prescription medications. At this year's event, 100 lbs of prescription drugs were collected from the surrounding community. Another Take Back event will take place in the spring.
