Levittown Community Action Coalition (LCAC) has partnered with a new coalition operating our of YES Community Counseling Center, the Hispanic Alliance for Prevention (HAP).
The coalition operates with a mission to provide social, economic, educational, and health resources and support in order to reduce risk factors associated with substance use for Hispanic youth ages 12-17 in Nassau County. In 2022, YES Community Counseling Center was awarded the Special Populations Community Coalitions grant through the New York State Offices of Addiction Services and Support (NYS OASAS) to support HAP. YES CCC and HAP partner, Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC), work collaboratively to reach Hispanic community members across Nassau County with appropriate linguistic and cultural competence. LCAC embraces this opportunity to work alongside the new coalition to appropriately address the needs of the Hispanic/ Latino population in the Levittown area.
"I'm proud to be apart of HAP and to be able to provide a more comprehensive plan for prevention strategy in Levittown. This partnership will help to support Levittown residents that, historically, had not received the same level of care as others," LCAC Project Coordinator, Hannah Moore, says. "We also hope to be a reciprocal resource for HAP and assist in future data collection, campaigns, and more."
HAP is currently undertaking a survey of residents in Nassau County which will provide insight on disparities and barriers faced by local Hispanic youth and their families, their perspective on substance use risk and protective factors, and what resources and support they want to see implemented in HAP and local coalitions like LCAC. This survey, which takes approximately 10 minutes, can be done by any youth aged 12+ or adults residing in Nassau County that identify as Hispanic/ Latino.
