LCAC to Host Drug Take Back Day

It’s time to clean out the medicine chest and dispose of unused or expired medication for safe disposal during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Nassau County, Levittown, NY – Levittown Community Action Coalition (LCAC) has scheduled their Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Wisdom Lane Middle School, 120 Center Lane, Levittown.

“At last year’s event we collected 280 pounds of unused and unwanted medications, and we are hopeful to do the same this year,” said Corinne Alba, the Coalitions Co-Chair.

The program is anonymous and the coalition is asking that all personal information be removed from the label to ensure privacy. Liquid medications and syringes will not be accepted at this event. LCAC will provide resources on syringe drop-off locations. If you cannot make Saturday’s event, residents can drop off medications at the 8th Precinct Center at 299 Hicksville Road in Bethpage.

About Drug Take Back Day

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.  The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
